Frequently Asked Questions
How do I contact you?
You can either call me at (301) 922-2345 or email me at ann@annturner.com.
If I'm not available, you may leave a message in my confidential voicemail
box.
What can I expect during the first appointment?
First I will ask you to sign some forms which explain confidentiality.
Then, if you're using your insurance, I'll ask you to fill out some forms
which allow me to bill your insurance. Then, we'll talk about what led you
to pursue counseling. I'll also start gathering a personal history so I can
help assist you in solving your issues. If you have any questions or
concerns, you're welcome to bring them up at this session or at anytime
throughout our time together.
How do I know my counseling is completely confidential?
I maintain strict confidentiality of all information in accordance with my
personal and professional ethics, as well as in accordance with all
applicable state, District and federal laws protecting confidentiality.
How long are therapy sessions?
They are usually 45 minutes but, if the situation warrants it, we can
schedule a longer session.
How frequent are therapy sessions?
I see most of my clients once a week. Some people come more frequently when
they are in crisis. Once clients are stable and improving, we can meet less
frequently like every other week or even once a month.
How do I know if I can afford counseling?
I always discuss any fees to make sure you are comfortable with them and
explain any insurance or EAP (employee assistance program) benefits coverage
that may apply. For example, clients who have CareFirst insurance usually
pay a small copay ($15-20) to see me. Although some have to meet their
deductible first. And clients who see me through their EAP don't have any
out-of-pocket cost.
